On His Sleeve

That is where Gabe wears his emotions...and by sleeve, I mean face.

*After letting him know that in 2 weeks I was going to be leaving him a full day with BOTH kids.
(while both kids were screaming and had been for aprox 15 min shy of an eternity)

Everett doesnt seem that stoked about the idea either
He took the news well.

One Month

Everett turned a whopping one month old today, which is officially now yesterday... He even suited up  for the event.
Little Man is heavy in the number 2 business

I am happy to report that despite publicly acknowledging on multiple occasions that Everett is indeed a very good baby, and by good baby I mean good sleeper, which plays upon my inherent fear that by verbalizing this fact means the universe will inevitably make it untrue, he is still sleeping almost all day and only wakes up every 3-4 hours at night for some boobie treats.
the kid can sleep
and sleep

and sleep some more... hmm... wonder where he got that from?
Also proud to announce that sister still digs the little dude...though she has grown weary of his high pitched food demands in the car and whenever even a whimper escapes his lips and instead of the usual "oh no, the baby!" and her urgent runs  to check him like she does at home, in the car she just points at him and says "NO baby STOP, bottle!" which I translate as toddler for "put a cork in it kid."

Mini Vacay

Is it weird that I miss the hospital? We were there 5 days and 4 nights- it was one beach and three pina coladas shy of being resort worthy. Of course, that is with the exception of one horror filled day/night where I had to fight off the overzealous practices of 1 kidney specialist, 2 doctors and a nurse who were trying to bully me (and were unsuccessful)  into having very painful procedures done on Everett, including wanting to intubate him to give him medicine for reflux (what the what!?!? no way!) inserting a catheter and some crazy kidney balloon procedure to "make sure" the three ultra sounds that gave the green light (both pre and post birth) that Everetts kidneys were, in fact, O.K.  Long story short, mother bear came out to play... and by play I mean claw some faces off.

But truly, aside from that it was great. We had wonderful nurses, Gabe and I each had a super comfortable adjustable bed, free cable,  round the clock room service, 4 toddler and tantrum free days, 4 nights of actual sleep, visits from friends who brought treats.... like the beyond bad ass onsie Cari got us (because she understands the importance of dressing your baby like the spear throwing, club wielding, arrow snapping viking warrior ninja that he is... or will be if my medieval history juju leaks on him)

and the chocolate covered carmel apples, chocolate covered marshmallows, brownies, cookies, milkshakes and even a gift certificate for a massage and facial kind of treats! ( obvously, my friends Kim, Whitney and Rhiannon get the fastest way to my heart)  and in addition to all of that, I was introduced to my newest love and addiction... Luigis italian ice (cherry flavored) which we were able to hunt down at our local grocery store recently,  so now we can drift off back to our hospital heaven any time we desire.

But, as always, all good things must come to an end. So we packed up the new bundle to go home
and did what all men love to do.... went shopping.

Boxes of diapers, pacis, swaddle mes and mounds of mylicon later, we were greeted at home with backyard wall decor

flowers

and my personal favorite.... pizza and beer. Lots and lots of beer.

A possible explanation as to why Everett is proving to be a MUCH better sleeper than his sister...
Aside from my fear that I will forever look about 6 months pregnant, having babies is proving to be more fun with each delivery.

The Introduction

I spent a good portion of my pregnancy worrying about how Annabelle was going to handle having to share the center of the universe with her brother. Their first meeting, a few hours after his birth, did not help to dispell any Cain and Ableish fears I was clinging to.... she was horrified to say the least.
Her immediate reaction upon entering the room and seeing me holding Everett.
Eventually, her screams and panicking subsided enough so she could manage a brief wander over to the baby and size up her life ruiner.
She spent the remainder of her visit crying, refusing to let me hold her, sit by me, even make eye contact with me or kiss me goodbye. My fragile mommy heart felt like it was being clubbed with an ice pick laced in battery acid. While I was hospital bound she wanted nothing to do with me, evil mommy betrayer, But my heart and my ego slowly started to mend as Belle spent the next few days quickly warming up to "babewee"

and became eager to take care of him herself.

When she wasnt trying to smother or body slam him that is......

By the time we got home, it was obvious that Annabelle had fallen in love with her brother and what started out as a dismal first impression is turning into a lifelong bond of love and friendship between them.

Installment 1.5

I swear I am working on the installments that I promised detailing our hospital stay (its really just a matter of my stopping being lazy and finding our camera to download pics to accompany mind numbingly awesome post writing) until then.... here are the "sneak peak" photos we just got sent from our newborn photo shoot..... I may be biased in this assertion...but... I am pretty stinkin positive he is the cutest.baby.in.the.world. Prepare your eyes for adorableness.
